Built by a dad teaching two kids, now opening to other families

The homeschool curriculumwe'd actually use

Academy is a real curriculum, not a stack of PDFs. Narrated lessons that teach scene by scene, aligned to your state's standards, with a parent dashboard that shows what actually stuck.

Why we built it

I'm Brendan. I built Academy because nothing on the market actually taught my kids the way I wanted, and I was tired of stitching together five subscriptions, a printer, and a stack of borrowed workbooks every Sunday night.

My daughter Maria (2nd grade) and my son Xavier (Pre-K) needed something that actually teaches. Not a progress tracker, not video lectures, not generic filler. Lessons that present one idea at a time, hold a kid's attention, ask them to try before showing the answer, and keep yesterday's shaky concepts surfacing until they stick.

Every lesson is built scene by scene, narrated for early readers, illustrated with real artwork, and tagged to the actual state standard it teaches. Parents see what was learned and what is due. Kids see stars, mastery, and a curriculum that moves at their pace. That is the whole product.

What Academy does

Real lessons, scene by scene

Every lesson is a paginated flow: one idea per scene, real artwork, narrated for early readers, and a quick check before the kid moves on. No worksheet PDFs.

State-standards alignment

Each lesson carries the Common Core, NGSS, or C3 code it teaches to. Parents see standards progress per child, so portfolio reviews become trivial.

Spaced retrieval built in

Shaky quick-checks seed an SM-2 retrieval queue. Yesterday's stumbles surface as today's warm-up, automatically, with no flashcard prep.

Mastery-gated progress

The next lesson unlocks when the prerequisite is mastered, confirmed by delayed retrieval, not just completion. Kids move at their real pace.

Faith curriculum, your way

Religion lessons render in 8 traditions (Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Urantia, or secular). Pick one for your family or override per child.

Safe for kids

No ads. No data resale. Parent PIN and kiosk mode lock the tablet to student-mode so app-store distractions and settings stay gated.

How we think about learning

Built by a parent

If a feature does not help a kid learn more deeply or a parent teach more confidently, it does not ship.

Teach, do not just track

Academy is not a progress dashboard wrapped around video. Every lesson presents one idea at a time and asks the kid to try before showing the answer.

Make it stick

Learning that is not retrieved is forgotten. Spaced retrieval is woven through every lesson and the Knowledge Race game, not bolted on.

Privacy by default

Student data stays inside your account. No behavioral ad targeting, ever.
